We miss daddy!

Sunday, May 4, 2008

It's Sunday morning, and we're down to counting hours until daddy arrives. I tried to post when he was gone, and failed miserably. Honestly, you don't have one minute to sit down when you're doing it on your own. God bless the single parents out there! But, I did have a little help....

On Friday night, the boys and I went over to Bobbi and Joe's for a burger and another night of Can You Duet. It's weird seeing people you know on television but very exciting at the same time! At least this isn't a show embarrassing or unethical or anything! The girls sang great and looked amazing as usual, but I'm anxious for the next show already!

Uncle Jeff arrived on Friday night and went out with some friends. He stayed overnight and got home around 11:30 that night. He woke up to Joey running into his arms saying "Uncle Jeff! Uncle Jeff!" He was so happy to see him, not sure if Jeff was as happy to see him at 6:30 in the morning. Maddox was also up so Jeff slowly learned that his day had just begun! Ashley showed up around noon to see the boys and do a little shopping (although not enough). We were happy to have her here- she's amazing with the boys and I can tell she thoroughly enjoys being around them. Mom and dad rolled in around 1:30 I think. Mom, Ashley and I made a quick trip to Valley Junction and we found a couple of gifts, but no treats for ourselves. We also went to Younkers. Mom had already been to Target and Kohls (her typical stops). We got home and the boys were up and dad and Jeff were manning the house. Ashley and I decided to go to church at 5 p.m. The service was on confirmation - the meaning of it, the importance of it. We both got a lot out of the service and chatted about it all the way home. It's nice having alone time with Ashley, usually we're bombarded with children or other adults (I like to think of myself as young when I'm with Ashley!). So, the time alone at church and in the car and at night, when we stayed up chatting was probably the best time spent with her in a long time! Anyway, we got home and ate Applebees and then did bath time and bedtime. Uncle Jeff read stories to Joey before bedtime. One more sleep til daddy is here!

This morning, I was up with Maddox at 5 a.m. and then he went back to bed for another hour. Joey got up around 6:30 a.m., walked to me and said, "But, mom, where's Uncle Jeff? And, did papa mark and gamma sheila go home? are they feeding the piggys?" : ) During that hour that Maddox went back to sleep, I actually thought about morel mushrooms and how bad I wanted them! Bobbi and Joe introduced them to me when I came into the family, and I've loved them ever since. They've opened my eyes to artichokes and morels - - what contributions they've made to my appetite and cravings! Anyway, I just talked to Bobbi and she said Daddy Joe is out hunting for morels. I'm very excited! But, this made me think of Joe and I's morel experience a few years ago....Like I said, we love morels. Daddy Joe had given us this huge ziplock bag full of them and we couldn't wait to cook them on our own. However, Bobbi cooks them the best but I was anxious to try doing it on our own. So, we got the butter going, coated them in flour, and put them in the frying pan. We noticed something wasn't right in the pan- it was like the flour wasn't sticking right so I figured the heat wasn't up high enough or something. So, we took the morels out, waited for them to cool down, and ate them. Once again, we thought something was awfully odd. Joe figured it was my cooking. I called Bobbi and asked her how to do it again and she confirmed exactly how I was doing it. So, we made a whole other batch, tried it, and just couldn't figure out why it tasted more sweet, than salty. Added more salt, more pepper, started another batch. Nope, didn't work. Well, I decided to taste the flour - Bingo! It was powdered sugar! We were dying - dying laughing at this mistake (I obviously grabbed the wrong jar) and dying because we had wasted at least 2-3 batches of good morels. Lesson learned- always taste your flour beforehand. I laughed out loud in bed thinking of that moment.

Lastly, here's a matching game for you. Match the character with the action.
A. Pooped on the living room floor.
B. Put the poop from the living room floor in mouth. Spit it out.
C. Pooped in bath tub.

1. Maddox
2. Joey
3. Remsy, our dog

And, with that, I'll sign off. Today my wishes are for: Less Poop on the floor; More poop in the potty (by Joey specifically); Good morels; Dutch letters for Joe (Tony and Kelly were picking some up for him at Tulip Time); and daddy to be home sooner than later!
