Fourth Of July Recap

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Well, our Fourth of July consisted of this:

* Friday night softball league

* Sparklers after Friday night softball with the boys

* Stripping and staining my grandpa's hutch that he made me years ago (pictures to come)

* Stuff around the house

* Boating on Lake Panorama with Cary and Ali (many drinks and lots of sun!)

* Rainy Sunday filled with Brunch at Granite City, naps and BBQ at Bobbi and Joe's (and cancelled fireworks!)

* Monday we had fresh orange juice and coffee cake, swim lessons, Toy Story 3, play time, more staining of hutch, spaghetti, and early bedtimes by all!

Didn't take many photos but I did document our fresh orange juice in the making! (Funny thing is, I googled how to make fresh orange juice and found three recipes and all of them said something like this “Squeeze orange juice into container. Drink.”  I guess I thought it might be more involved.

Buy your oranges and buy your citrus juicer (mine was $12 KitchenAid brand and came with a strainer).  Then, lightly poke the skin of the oranges and put in microwave for 20 seconds – it makes the oranges easier to strain.

Have your kids do the squeezing! They loved it!

Pour! And, 7 large oranges made half of a small pitcher or 4 small glasses! Wow- sure takes a lot! But, it sure was tasty! It tasted nothing like orange juice out of a carton and everything like REAL oranges! It was delicious!

If you haven’t tried making your own freshly squeezed orange juice, I highly recommend it!
