Maddox and Joey: What sets them apart - or brings them together!

Thursday, July 3, 2008

I don't have a lot to say for this post but was thinking a lot about the differences between Maddox and Joey. I get asked that a lot - if they are more alike or more different. I'm not sure the answer- but I guess you love them just the same no matter what their differences! So, here's a list. I'm writing this more because often times I'll ask my mom or my mother-in-law a question, and they both have the same answer, "Well, one of my kids did that, I'm just not sure which one!" or "Joe used to love that, or was it Tony? Nope, it was Kyle" or my dad's comment, "I dropped one of you on your head while I fell asleep in the chair. I think it was you, Holly, but I'm not sure." So, maybe this is my way of recording something for them later!

How they are alike:
1. Both have big, brown eyes (Joey’s are a little bigger)
2. Both have long, curled eyelashes.
3. Both have birthmarks- Joey has one near his shoulder, Maddox has one on his toe, and upper leg. I like to think they are kisses from God.
4. Both boys are big boys – always in the 90th percentile for height and weight!
5. Both boys are generally happy boys during the day- both smile a lot!

How they are different:
1. Joey slept through the night around 18 months, Maddox slept through the night at 8 weeks.
2. Joey was hospitalized for croup as a baby; Maddox was hospitalized for RSV as a baby.
3. Joey’s teething was NO problem at all- he’d wake up and have teeth and be happy as a clam. Maddox’s teeth were nightmares- swollen, bruised, painful.
4. Joey never spit up – I think I can remember 3 times- two times on Joe and one time on Aunt Ali. Maddox spit up pretty consistently for about 3 months, and still randomly spits up.
5. Joey ate like it was his job- he was eating 6 ounces at a time at two weeks old and ate several bottles a day. I think we over-fed him. Maddox is more of the typical baby- eats on schedule and didn’t reach the 6-ounce mark for quite some time.
6. Joey was bottle-fed (besides for the first day in the hospital); Maddox was breastfed for about 14 weeks.
7. Joey loved baby food from the moment he was introduced to it and could eat 2 or 3 jars a meal. Maddox doesn’t really like baby food.
8. Maddox likes “adult” food much better than Joey ever did. At 9 months old, Maddox ate a whole cheese enchilada.
9. Joey ate cereal for about one week. Maddox was still eating baby cereal at 8 months.
10. Joey would burp the best sitting up, with us holding his head up and patting on his back. Maddox burped better over the shoulder.
11. Joey loved to be rocked and would snuggle any time. Maddox preferred to lay down by himself.
12. Joey loved to be rocked over the shoulder before bedtime. Maddox preferred to be cradled in our arms.
13. Joey hated the pacifier and spit it out all the time- Maddox didn’t love it, but eventually got the hang of it.
14. Joey’s delivery was intense and scary and complicated- Maddox’s was pretty smooth sailing except for the 30 minutes after he was born.
15. Joey was the first grandson on both sides of the family. Maddox was the second grandson on the Remsburg side and the third grandson on the Coppola side.
16. Joey loved bathtime and could sit in the bath for an hour or more. Maddox likes it but doesn’t love it, and his baths are much shorter than Joey’s ever were.
17. Maddox loves it when you blow on his stomach and make that noise, and for some reason, I remember doing that to Joey and he would just stare at me. He wouldn’t laugh at all, he’d look at me like, “What are you doing that for?” Maddox giggles insanely when I do that to him.
18. Joey would fall asleep almost instantaneously in the car and was always a good “rider”. Maddox is inconsistent, and for the most part, I would say he doesn’t like the car. He kind of whines when he gets in his car seat and he doesn’t fall asleep easily in the car.
19. Joey has always had a preference towards balls, and Maddox has always had a preference towards bats. (A future pitcher and catcher maybe?)
20. Joey was a morning baby- woke up happy and content. Maddox, for the most part, wakes up whiny and crabby usually! Then, he’s much happier in the afternoon and evenings.

Here's a few photos from Joey's birthday. Here's what a dorky mom I am: I saw a t-shirt with all of Joey's favorite superheroes on it- Incredible Hulk, Superman, Spiderman, the works, so I had to get it for Joey's birthday party. Kevin tried telling me that he'd never notice it. Wrong-O. Joey saw it and said, "Look, mom, you have Spidey on your shirt! And, Hulk! And, Superman!" He loved it. It was worth the $21 for sure. Here's a list of some of Joey's gifts: Batcopter, Batmobile, Bad Batman, Spiderman puzzle, clothes, balls, bats, a personalized pillowcase, a fort, a stomp rocket, Incredible Hulk gloves, a homemade Superhero cape by Gma Taylor, Joker, Penguin, Robin, and some cold cash. Thanks to everyone who made it an extra-special 3rd birthday!

Lastly, here are a few photos of Joe and I with our little chunky monkeys!
