Here's to you, Mr. Heston!

Dear Charlton Heston,

You would have been proud. On Saturday, my sister and I took the Pistol Orientation Class that will grant us our Permits to Carry (yes, a real gun) come January 1st. I know you're wondering, Mr. Heston, what led me to this...so, here's your answer-

1) It was on my Bucket List. (#43 to be exact- check!)

2) It's my Second Amendment right....and, well, I'd hate to see an amendment wasted, or go unused so I thought it was time to exercise it.

3) Because we have a gun and I'd like to feel comfortable using it should someone choose to break into our home or threaten my family.

4) It's totally hot...right? Just ask my husband.

5) So, I could say that I was an NRA-card carrying member (that just sounds cool).

We did it - we sat through four hours of instruction, then went out to a range and shot several guns, we got a certificate, and pending a background check, that permit to carry will be all mine. Whether I actually tuck that Smith and Wesson into my purse is yet to be determined...but at least I'm capable. And, here's the proof!

Oh yeah, one more thing, Mr. Heston, to quote you - "I'll give you my gun when you take it from my cold, dead hands." Your legacy lives on, sir.
