It was a nice time- a little hard without grandpa. Grandpa used to go out and sit at the end of the dock with me right when we got there, and I didn't do that this year because it was just too hard without him. But, it still felt good to be there- being at something he loved so much. But, it was just different. And, my Great Uncle Chuck has also passed away, and I missed him, too - and his boat! We were lucky because he always let us use it, and this year, he was gone. So, it just seemed different, but my kids loved it nonetheless! And, Joey mentioned Papa Cecil a lot. He told me he asked God to give him back so that he could fish with us and God said "okay, Joey!" And, I told Joey that actually Papa Cecil didn't want to come back. He was SO happy in heaven that he would rather stay there but someday, we'll see him again. Then, that night at supper time at the cabin, Joey asked to say the prayer and here's how it went: "Dear God, Thank you for the food. And, um, thank you for the food. And, thank you for taking Papa Cecil to heaven! Amen!" It brought tears to my eyes, but was perfect. That night when Joey and I went to sleep, he said, "Mom, I told God that he could just have Papa Cecil- He can keep him if He wants him." And, I said, "Yeah, I wish I could bring him back but he's happy there, Joey." And, Joey said, "yeah, that's what I think- fine, keep him, God." Fine, God, if it always has to be Your way, then keep him. But, we'll still miss him!
The other memorable moment from the week is when my dad tore his tendon and ended up in E.R. in Spirit Lake. When we arrived back to Lake City, he discovered it was a whole tear, and ended up in surgery, with a cast, and now on crutches. Ugh! Not a good thing for an active farmer...And, Joey discovered what a leach was....and mommy had to come to the rescue! Gross.
Here are some fun photos!
