Way to go, Daddy!

My husband is not a runner. He admits that. He has no desire to get into running. He is an athlete, he does work out, but he avoids running like the plague. Until this weekend, that is. What made him do it? Kevin was trying to convince Joe to do the Living History Farms run...it's North America's largest cross country run - 7 miles of steep hills, gravel and grass, and 9 creeks....it's brutal. Joe said he'd do it, and then Kevin said, "But, if you don't do it, you owe me $100." He was just making sure Joe wouldn't back out.

Joe didn't back out...the race was on Saturday. It was freezing out, so running through the water was not easy. Joe finished in an hour and two minutes or something like that- which is 'fantabulous' as my cousin Jenny would say. Joe wasn't impressed with his own time but I sure was. The course looks so challenging and the weather was a whole other factor, along with Joe's dislike of running. But, if you know Joe and if you know how he reacts when someone says he 'can't' or 'won't' do something, this wouldn't surprise you.

Joey just liked the gold medal, and he likes now that mommy and daddy have a 'golden metal'. He wore them both around his neck with pride. I was interested in doing this race in the past, but not anymore. I don't mind running but I hate the cold, so I'll take a pass for now.

Here's a photo of Kevin, Joe and Gregg before the race. Kevin and Gregg are both great runners!

And, here's a link to the Des Moines Register video to see for yourself!

Additionally, I'd like to give a shout-out to the Southern Cal Mustangs of Lake City. That's right, folks, we did it again. We won the State Football Championship! Once again, to quote my cousin Jenny, "Raise the Roof! Lower the Floor!" They won in overtime - after going for TWO. It took guts. Real guts. But, as the coach said afterward, "If we got it, we won the game. If we didn't, tomorrow is a new day and the sun will still come up." Let's just say, the sun was a lot brighter coming up after a win. I watched them on television and cheered the whole time!

Lastly, I'll end with a Joey story. Last time, he wanted to deny Jesus his dollar. This time, he wanted to deny Jesus all together. He said, "Mom, I just want to go to the movie with Davis. I don't want to go to sunday school." I said, "You have to go. It won't last very long....it'll go really fast and then we can go to the movie!" And, he said, "I have an idea mom! How about we go to church, I look in and I say 'Bye Jesus, I'm going to the movies', and then we go?" Ha ha. Like he thought if he could just say hello and then be on his way, Jesus would be satisfied. It cracked me up and I almost fell for it. I wish mom would have let me do that growing up.

Have a great week!
