Happy Birthday Again and Again, Maddox!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Last night, we ended up celebrating Maddox's birthday with Tony and Kelly and Davis. Tony wanted Joe to read a legal document and Joe wanted Tony to work on his back (see previous post on Joe blaming his golf skills on his aching back). So, we went over there and Aunt Kelly had the place decked out for a mini-birthday party! So, we played on the playground and celebrated with some birthday cookies! It was great! Davis and Joey are so easy together. The night ended when Davis pooped his pants beyond belief - a perfect ending to Maddox's birthday!
This morning, I took our dog, Remsy to the vet. I am not the one who usually does that- it's usually Joe's job but he was busy with work, so I took the time. It was the first time that Remsy ever cuddled up to me and wanted me (she is clearly my husband's best friend in this house!). Anyway, it was her annual physical and I guess she passed- $150 later. The doctor asked me, "Any issues you want to discuss?" This is what went through my mind: she has scaly, dry, itchy skin; she eats underwear; she gags and pukes for no reason; she eats diapers; she has separation anxiety when away from Joe for more than 12 hours; she starts pacing the house at 2:30 every day wanting to be fed early; she sheds like you've never seen before; hates to be outside by herself and wants to get up at 5 a.m. every morning. Instead, I opt for the "Um, no, not that I can think of." We love Remsy and I love that we got her first- before we were married and had kids....sometimes she reminds me of our life "BJM" (Before Joey and Maddox)!

Anyway, tonight we celebrated Maddox's birthday as a family. I went to Carefree Patisserie in Valley Junction and skipped all the way up to the cupcake counter. I carefully contemplated just who would want what flavor of cupcake and whether I should buy an extra one for the car ride home. I opted for: Peanut Butter Chocolate for Joe; Vanilla Chardonnay for Maddox (his first taste of alcohol at 1 year old); Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting That Makes You Feel Like You've Died and Gone to Heaven; and Vanilla Malt for Joey. Tonight, we had a birthday supper (my mom's cavatelli recipe), did baths and then opened presents and had cupcakes. I am not kidding you- Maddox devoured that cupcake like it was his full-time job. Unbelievable. And, more funny is Joey- he looked at Maddox eating it and goes, "Mom, look at our fatty boy! What a fatty boy!" I died laughing, I thought that was so funny. However, I did tell him not to say it again. Maddox is in bed now and I'm waiting for him to get up with a tummy ache at about 2:30 a.m. Fun stuff.

What's not to love- my 3 boys and cupcakes?!

Maddox digging into his birthday cupcake! Here's our "fatty boy"! I love his eyes, eyelashes and hair in this picture. Lastly, we had big news in the Coppola family today, too. Joe's cousins, Kate and Kacey, signed a record contract with Big Machine Records. Kate and Kacey are the ones who sang at our wedding and were on the show 'Can You Duet?'. We are extremely proud of them and can't wait for them to be big-time - hey, the Coppolas need to be known for more than wine! Anyway, we are super-excited and hope they get all they have dreamed of! Someday I'll be able to say "I knew them when...." Their MySpace page is on my links so check it out!

Oh- we also found out today that our friends Greg and Nikki are having a baby- due in February! We are so happy for them, as they've been waiting a long time for this blessing! They are going to make super parents!

It's hard to believe Maddox is one - my babies are growing up too fast! But, I'm loving every minute!

Happy 1st Bday Maddox! Holly, I love the new look of your blog. You may have to give me some tips on how you did it. Lexi ate her first cupcake like it was her job, too. She didn't leave a crumb on the tray! Miss you.
