Yesterday, I had the boys at home all day with me. I try to have them home two days a week and work from home 3 days a week. It was a great day. We started out at the gym- I drop the boys off at the gym's daycare and they love it. Joey gets to play basketball in a gym designed for toddlers. At the end of the day, Joey said, "Mom, can we go back because I want to play basketball and run really fast and no one will ever beat me!" Neither Joe or I know where he gets his competitiveness from.....
After the gym, Maddox laid down for his nap and Joey played while I had a conference call for work. After naptime, we met Davis, Gma Bobbi and Great Gma Taylor at the playplace at the mall. That place can make an over-protective mom crazy (so glad I'm not one of them). You're head just spins from keeping them within sight and within a couple of arm-reaches. I saw a little girl move Davis so she could have a toy- she kind of swiped his hand off the toy and my radar went off. I immediately wanted to take the little girl out back. Davis is a sweet little boy- he's so quiet and gentle, unlike his older cousin. Davis followed Joey around everywhere but also went out on his own. They both just ran circles around all the other kids and loved it. After some McDonald's, we then went home for round two of naps. After naps, we played some more until dad came home from work.
I love how Joey can play 'make-believe' now. In one day, I was a mailman, an office worker, a mommy, a green goblin and a ghost. I was really impressed with my abilities to deliver mail to all of the "people" in our house. I loved how each time I delivered something, he acted like I had just delivered mail from Jesus. He was ecstatic. It's the best.
The best line of the day? When Joey doesn't get what he wants, he responds with this, "Ah, Pickles!" We found out that he got that line from Higglytown Heroes. Joe and I have used it now to replace other words in our own language. It's working out quite nicely.
Inspired by Oprah....so I watched an Oprah show on wastefulness....not finishing food or products before throwing them away, drinking only bottled water, eating off of paper plates, "plugging in" too much- to the computer, tv, ipod, etc. Anyway, I'm trying out the 'no paperplates' rule. It's going okay but I definitely miss them. I guess I didn't realize how much we used them. Really, it just adds a couple of dishes to the dishwasher- it's not even me washing the plates so I guess I shouldn't complain! Joe isn't real fond of the 'giving up tv for a week' idea I proposed but I think we'll try it out this summer. To see how these families were completely lost on Oprah without all of our conveniences was humorous- but we'd be no different. The kids were bored out of their minds, the husbands and wives stared at eachother at the end of the night, life wasn't as "easy." I've never been a real 'green' person to be honest, but this show made me look at it a little differently.
The end of the night ended with my friend's sister, Erin Beckman, babysitting for a couple of hours while Joe and I went and got pizza. We came home and watched Joe's cousins on "Can You Duet?" Kate and Kacey sang at our wedding and they were amazing on television and clearly the stand-outs on the show. Hopefully this show leads to something big for them!
Let the weekend begin!
