First Day of School!!!

Sunday, August 27, 2017

The first day of school finally came! Was I ready? Kind of. Ready for routine. But, as the day got closer, I got more and more emotional. Saylor will be entering kindergarten and Joey will be entering middle school. It's just a lot of change.....Saylor has been my little "friend" for the past three years....helping me around the house, going on errands with me, talking to me in the car. And, she talks A LOT. So, I'll just be missing her. And, I just can't picture Joey as a middle schooler- with a locker, multiple teachers, dances, etc. I'm just not ready. But, the first day came regardless.

Here are some memories:

Saylor: Walked in like a boss. She laid out clothes the night before, got everything ready and popped out of bed with a positive attitude! She couldn't have been more excited! She went to the line at school, walked without holding our hand, and told us that we could leave her. It was a mix of pride and sadness on my end! She picked out a jumper, a star clip and pencil earrings to wear!

Memories from Saylor:
* I LOVED lunch. It was the BEST part of my day!
* Mom, hips and lips when you walk! One hand over your hip, and one hand over your lips when you are in line!
* Mrs. Young is SOOOOO nice! And, we get THREE recesses!
* Mom, do not share this with anyone. Let's keep this between us - But there is a GIRL with a boy haircut. But, she was wearing a jumper so I knew it was a girl!
* One kid put his hands over his ears when the teacher was talking. Like he wasn't going to listen to her. Mrs. Young had to call him over.
* There was a friendship breakup at recess. I don't know why. Some girl got mad at another girl for not playing with her. In my head, it did not make any sense to me.
* You do not go to the bathroom when you are on the carpet. You go to the bathroom before or after carpet - but once you sit down, you need to stay there.

Joey had a GREAT first day of Middle School! Memories:
* He gets to pump his own condiments! LOL. Apparently, they pump them for you in elementary school!
* He gets seconds at lunch. I've never seen so much enthusiasm over lunch before.
* He gets the choice of salad bar for lunch. Again, lots of enthusiasm over food.
* Mr. Steenson the science teacher has a pet bunny!
* "This is everything how I pictured school would be"
* I love all my teachers!
* I get to be with Gabe, Luke and Dante in my traveling group! And, if there's not assigned seats, then I get to sit by them!
* We get 5 minutes for recess every day which is really lame. So, we're just going to stand and talk. We might have a TV Show where we interview people for 5 minutes!

Maddox had an okay day....this was his third year in a row with this teacher, who he loves! But, it's just not very "new" to him. Here are his memories:
* They ran out of chicken strips at lunch. I have no idea how this happened but they ran out. So, he had strawberries. Joey found this quite amusing since he got seconds.
* He invited the new kid to eat lunch with him and play with him at recess.
* The best part of the day is having Ms. Jansen as his teacher.
* He described his day as "Just the usual".

Joe and I didn't have the best first week of school....between Dad's cancer, Saylor going to kindergarten, Joe lost a big client at work and Maddox's basketball team broke up....it was just hard. But, we tried celebrating with coffee after school drop off....but weren't our normal happy selves. I had some Coppola cousins over for lunch to help the day go faster and that was nice. It was good to have girl talk and talk thru some of our worries together.

Cheers to new beginnings!
