What's In A Name?

photo CreativeOutcome_PostTopLine_zps6736884c.png The other day, the boys were asking me what "other" names I was thinking about naming them or what their names would be if they were girls! So, I decided to look it up for them (in their baby scrapbooks). And, I wanted to write about it so I wouldn't forget!

Joey:
The only other boy name we took to the hospital was Carson William.
The girl name we took to the hospital was: Macy Lynn.
Why did we choose Joeseph William? Long line of tradition obviously! Great Grandpa Joe, Grandpa Joe, Dad Joe and now Joey the Fourth! I actually really liked the name Joseph so it wasn't a hard sell!
William is after all of the Joes, but also my dad, Mark William Remsburg; and my grandpa William Carl Bruggeman; and my brother Jeffrey William Remsburg.  So, William was also an easy choice!
Nicknames: Joey, Joe, IV, Joe Joe

Maddox:
I found the list of the boy names we were considering: Reece, Cameron, Bryson, Grayson and Maddox. In the end, it came down to Cameron (we were going to call him 'Cam') and Maddox.
We only brought one girl name to the hospital: Quincy Lynn (I still love it!)
Why did we choose Maddox Cecil? Well, Greg Maddux is still one of my favorite baseball players of all time - I used to watch the Atlanta Braves with my dad a lot growing up. So, when I heard that name as a first name, I was drawn to it. We also chose it because it was the only one that both Joe and I really liked - the others were okay but usually one of us liked it and one of us didn't! Cecil was after my grandpa Remsburg. I knew it would be a way for me to honor him and I felt the other grandpas were all covered with "William" so it seemed fitting. My grandpa was so proud. When he came to see me a while after Maddox was born, Grandma said "Well, your grandpa has told everyone in town that he has a little boy named after him. He talks about it all the time!"  It makes me so proud and happy.
Nicknames: Mad Dawg, Mad Diggity Dawg, Mad Man

Saylor:

Boy names we brought to the hospital were: Mitchel, Camden, Elija (Eli), and Christian.  In the end, we had planned on going with Christian Jeffrey.  Jeffrey would be after my brother - I always liked the name Jeffrey and obviously love my brother.
Girl names that were on the final list were: Finley, Ayla, Hannah, Savannah, Layla, and Lila.  But, it really wasn't until she was born that I asked Joe if we were sure we wanted to go with Saylor!
Why did we choose Saylor Lynn? Funny enough, in college, I remembered that there was this baby born to a celebrity I liked and I LOVED the name.  But, for the life of me, I couldn't remember the celebrity of the name. One day, I was reading People Magazine and the story of Christie Brinkley's divorce- and there was my name! Her daughter's name was Sailor! I just loved it! It took me a little bit to sell Joe on it but it definitely was the name I kept going back to over and over and over. I didn't love how Sailor was spelled so we tweaked it a bit to make 'Saylor'. Lynn was after my middle name and my mom's middle name - and Saylor Lynn sounded so perfect together I thought!
Nicknames: Say Say (Her cousin, Brynn, started this nickname!!)

It's funny because as I look back at the names, some of them I can't believe we were considering! And, their final names just seem so right. I can't imagine Joey as a Carson; Maddox as a Grayson or Saylor as a Finley!

My sister-in-law Ali is pregnant and considering names now too! Maybe she can take one of our leftovers!
