The time has come....

With Maddox being in kindergarten and constantly on Joey's heels with nearly about everything, the time has come. We've got two boys in sports.  Wow. That's been the biggest game changer for us this year.  Joey played on his Sacred Heart school football team. Maddox played on a Waukee YMCA football team. This means two sets of practices, games, different fields, different times, different uniforms, different costs, different coaches, different philosophies. We had overlapping games and did the whole "Which game do you want to go to?" routine a couple of times. We raced from one game to the next. We had two schedules to track and it got messy a lot. For basketball, both boys are playing through Sports Plex, have the same uniforms, have the same coaches, same practice times- but different game times.  This finds us at Sports Plex (which thankfully is near our home) at least twice (but usually three) times a week for games.  Put practice on the calendar and this consumes 4 nights a week for us.  With two boys who are very active, it's actually good for them to get out and exert some of that energy. But, it also means that we have to run a pretty tight ship - it means homework done, snacks eaten right after school, supper ready right after practice, water bottles ready to go, basketballs by the door, shoes ready, a cartoon...and then bedtime routine begins.   There's no room for messing around.

Here are a couple of photos from football season!

The boys both had a great basketball season. The second season starts in January. Maddox's team won the league championship and the tournament championship. Joey's team won the league championship but lost in the final game of the tournament championship. Both boys ended up with one loss- which made good for being "even" in our house!

As for Saylor and I, we mostly have our butts in the seat. Daddy coaches, the boys play, and we cheer everyone on. But, every once in a while, we go to battle too.
