The Annual New Year's Bakeoff: Homemade Pizza

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Every year, we have a bakeoff with the Coppola's....we've done wedding cake, we've done homemade pies, we've done fried chicken, we've done potato salad, and we've done cinnamon rolls. This year, we did homemade pizza! It was a lot of fun!

I chose a pretty classic pizza: dough, homemade sauce, fresh mozzerella mixed with bagged mozzerella, sausage, mushrooms, and red pepper

Ali chose a classic pizza; Bobbi chose cheeseburger pizza; and Emily chose grilled pizza with pesto sauce, tomatoes and feta cheese.

I took home the title this year! Woot Woot! However, I will say that I didn't wallow in the glory because to be honest, ALL the pizzas were super good. I loved Ali's sauce, I loved Emily's dough on the grill, and I love cheeseburger pizza so Bobbi's was a favorite of mine. So, it really seemed like the least fair win out of all the years...usually, it seems that one person takes the prize but this year, it was really a toss-up. And, my pizza crust was a little overdone for my liking.

I'd make the crust again for sure, and I loved the sauce I made. But, I also just like pizza sauce out of the jar, so it's hard for me to argue with that! I'm anxious to try my recipe all over again and see how I like it the second time around, now that I've learned a few things.
