Family Update

* Joey turned 7 years old this summer!
* His favorite things to do are play with Legos, play sports, play outside, and talk!
* He can entertain himself and play by himself for long periods of time.
* The best thing about him right now is that he's developing his own little sense of humor and is starting to "get" jokes!
* He is very busy and can rarely just sit and watch t.v. - he always has to be doing something.
* He's great with Saylor but likes to pick her up and move her if she gets in his way.
* He's a pretty good eater and will try anything new, so that's a bonus!
* He loves being at home- he is okay for 2 days away from home but always loves coming back to his own home and bed!
* He will cuddle with me and always open for a hug!
* He gets up between 6:15-6:45 every day. He willingly goes to bed around 8 p.m.
* He spills constantly- milk, juice, legos, food, you name it - he spills it. This drives his father crazy, but doesn't bother me in the least, probably because I was a spiller growing up!
* He's a risk taker- never considers that he could get hurt!
* Loves being a part of a team and meeting new friends!

* Maddox turns 5 in August.
* He constantly is trying to keep up with is big brother.
* He always wants to try new things or do something new.
* He is shy at first in almost all social situations.
* He works hard at everything he does and holds himself to very high standards (which makes his dad and I sad at times).
* He loves playing sports the most, but still plays superheroes.
* He has to be doing something at all times- I feel like he's a kid who constantly has to be entertained.
* He is not the best eater- we have to make him eat usually.
* He hates wearing kacki shorts and church clothes.
* He is very protective of Saylor and is constantly watching what she puts in her mouth and where she crawls!
* He prefers to cuddle with his daddy!
* He hates going to bed- no matter what time it is.
* He is insisting we put a picture of Jesus on his birthday cake. He has asked for this since his last birthday. I hate to discourage this but honestly, it's a little weird.  I mean, imagine a big picture of Jesus on a cake with a candle on him. I'm really trying to steer him towards another theme, and then I told Joe I'd do a little family bday cake with a picture of Jesus on that. Oh my.

* Saylor is 10 months old!
* She is a crawling machine!
* She went up the whole set of stairs by herself with Joe behind her.
* She has not attempted to go down the stairs.
* She sleeps and cuddles with her hands and arms tucked underneath her (which is how I sleep, too!)
* She has the best blue eyes and blonde hair!
* She says "mamamamama" and "dadadadadada"
* We are teaching her to wave and kiss and she's getting it but doesn't initiate it yet.
* She has moved on from baby food and is onto "real" food.
* She loves blueberry muffins, cantelope, watermelon, spaghetti, and cinnamon toast.
* She has 5 teeth and is grinding them, which drives us crazy.
* She likes to ride on her little car, pull her caterpillars around, watch Elmo laugh, and climb up and over daddy multiple times in a row.
* She does not love her bath but sure does love the pool!
* She has the cutest little golden tan (don't worry- I put sunscreen on her all the time!)
* She is very content and easy to please baby.
* She sleeps through the night consistently but occasionally wakes up at 4 a.m. for an early bottle.

Joeyisms and Mad Dawgies:

I was making supper and Saylor was at my feet crying for me to pick her up.
Joey: Geez, mom, I know being a parent is hard and all of that, but can you just pick her up????

Flo Rida sings a song with the lyrics "If I took you home, it'd be a home run."  Anyway, Joey thought Rihanna sang that song and said to me, "A homerun? Mom, I didn't even know Rihanna liked baseball!"

It was Sunday morning and we were getting ready for church.
Joey: Mom, I know that Jesus is with me WHEREVER I go.
Me: Joey, that's so sweet. You're right.
Joey: It doesn't matter where I am, He's with me.  (He then begins to choke back tears).
Me: Oh, Joey...that's so sweet. God is so proud of you right now.
Joey: (With tears in his eyes)- That's why I don't have to go to church today, mom.  He's just right here with me.  He can be here with me at home and we don't even have to go to church.
Me: Well-played, Joey, well-played. But, you're going to church.
Joey: UGHHHHHH.
(I mean, if there was a Golden Globe available, I would give it to him. That was one of the best acting performances he has put on in a long time- tears and everything!!)

Joe had explained to Joey what it means to be "sarcastic" a few days earlier than this. Joe had asked me to see if Jimmy Johns would deliver to our house so I called them and they wouldn't.
Me: They won't deliver.
Joey: yeah, right, freak fast delivery!
Joe: No, Joey, they WON'T deliver.
Joey: I know, Dad! I was being SARCASTIC!

Maddox had just finished his baseball game and got in the car with Joe.
Maddox: Dad, I gave my team my WHOLE effort tonight.
Joe: You sure did, Maddox.
Maddox: I gave them everything I had. I gave it my all!
(I'm not sure where he heard that but it was so cute!)

Random conversation:
Maddox: Mom, why do they call it a bathroom? They should call it a BUTT-room!
Me: Because there's a bath in it, silly.
Maddox: Yeah, but you show your butt more in there than you take a bath, so they should have called it a buttroom!!!
