Ely 2012

This year, we invited my sister and her family on our annual trip to Ely! We left on a Wednesday and came home on a Sunday! Ely is one of our favorite family vacations, but I wouldn't call it an "easy" vacation place! We stay on an island, and obviously are surrounded by water, so we have to keep a close eye on the kiddos at all times! It makes napping for little ones difficult with all of the commotion, and we all share a cabin so even sleeping is sometimes hard.  So, my mom and dad offered to take Saylor while we were gone so we could all relax a little bit more.  We had last minute doubts and thought about changing our minds, but in the end, we stuck to it. Saylor went to Bobbi and Joe's one night and my parents the other nights.  It ended up being a really good decision. It was the most relaxed I have been at Ely in a long time because my kids were finally all old enough to tube, boat, jet ski, jump off the boathouse, swim to the other island and more!

It's a long drive to Ely but all the kids were good (with the minor exception of spilling milk in our car).  We stopped at Gordy's for our traditional "meal before the lake" and everyone loved it! Heather and I had planned all of our meals out, and had gotten most of our groceries before so there was little to do but unpack and enjoy once we got there!

Here are a few photos from the trip!

As you can see, we had a great time! And, there was really nothing we didn't do! We ate, we took a pontoon boat ride, we had drinks at the lodge, we shopped in town, we ate in town, we swam A LOT, we jumped off the boat house, we did a sauna every night, we read, we grilled ribs, we fished, we ate fish, we listened to music, but mostly, we had fun! The kids were almost too good to be true- there was no fighting and no whining! Everyone was busy the whole time- and the girls really impressed me! They were willing to try lots of new things and never complained! The Fritz Family were the perfect guests and hopefully can come again with us sometime!

The good thing about leaving Saylor is that we were ready to come home to see her! Everyone missed her!

Oh? That spilled milk? yep, it came back to haunt us. After our car sat in the sizzling heat for four days, it stank up our car.  Good heavens.
