Last week, I was talking to my Grandma Phyllis on the phone and had asked her what she was doing. She said she was doing laundry and I replied, “Ugh, I hate laundry.” And, she said, “Well, I only do one or two loads every two weeks so it’s not so bad.” And, then I said, “One or two loads? That would be my dream.” It was my first reaction – I mean, I don’t know too many moms who look forward to laundry. But, as I said it, my heart kind of sunk. My grandma lives alone since my grandpa died, her kids are grown, it’s just her. I wonder if maybe she’d go back to those days of having clothes strung all over, picking up after three little boys, getting groceries for a family of five, cooking for a crowd…I’m not sure. Thursday mornings is usually my cleaning time at my house, and this Thursday, I just decided to look at my chores through new eyes. I mean, what would my chores be like if I didn’t have to pick up Incredible Hulk out of my fruit dish? If I didn’t find Spiderman’s web tucked underneath the covers? If I didn’t have Curious George dishes to unload from the dishwasher? If I didn’t have Hi-C stickiness to wipe off my table? If I didn’t have Toy Story bubble bath to wipe out of the bathtub? It would be different. Some day, I’m gonna miss these chores. I am going to wish I had ten pairs of dirty socks to wash, family snack time at 8 p.m., four beds to make…I know I will.
On that note, I decided to take pictures of nearly all the toys I found on my cleaning journey! Enjoy the toy madness that has taken over our house – and our hearts!
Stuffed Dog “Cecil”, Spiderman, Toys, Lantern, Penguin nightlight, and Bay-Bay (Maddox’s blankie) – Joey had all of this stuff in his bed, too!
Bathtub toys left behind!
Footballs, Sonics, IronMan, and a homemade Superhero house out of my Ugg boot box!
Sonics and a drawing pad on the dining room table! And, toys and a mask on the living room bench!
More toys in our shower….and a bathtub with goggles…and two growing “snakes” in it…the snakes grow bigger the longer they stay in the water….which means, we kept water in that bathtub with the snakes for five days. Boys will be boys!
And, a hockey net, a Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, Batman’s car and Shaggy and Daphne. I gotta say, I love Shaggy and Scooby Doo but I’d put my money on Batman any day!
Eventually, most toys make it into the toy room! Thank God for this toy room!
Someday, this toy room will turn into a video game room or an office or an exercise room…but I hope I always remember the days when it was a toy room!
