Hello Mother Nature.  Hello Cold.  Hello Broken Trees.  Hello Generators.

These are photos of the trees at my parents’ place. It ain’t pretty.  It was a long week without electricity for them, and a lot of hard work for my dad- making sure the hogs stay safe, warm and fed; making sure my grandma is okay; and making sure my mom doesn’t pull her hair out.

But, as bad as it is, it’s not Haiti.  There are no casualties. There is food.  There is a roof over our heads.  No one is trapped or lost or missing.  I cannot imagine the devastation, the feeling of emptiness and loss they must be feeling. They’d trade places with us any day of the week.

If you’ve taken a daily gift for granted lately, stop and say thank you.  You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
