Daddy's Back....Cousins Camp is Here!

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

My mom and dad host "Cousins Camp" every year for the little ones who are potty trained. So, Grace has been going by herself for 3-4 days for years, and then when Maya and Joey were potty-trained, they joined her. Maddox is not yet potty-trained so he would be staying back with us this year. This works well because the other three cousins can potty on their own, go without naps, obey better, get themselves into carseats, and are pretty flexible on schedules. Cousins Camp began on Sunday but here were some conversations that led up to the weekend.

Joey to Maddox: Now, Mad Dog, listen, I am going to go to Cousins Camp all by myself for a very, very, very long time and you cannot come. Just me and my cousins. My cousins Grace and Maya. You are going to miss me very much and will be very sad.
Maddox to Joey: ohhhhhh

Joey every morning three mornings prior: Is it time? Is it time for Cousins Camp? How much longer?

Joey every night: And, when I wake up, will it be Cousins Camp yet?

Lisa told me he talked about it all day long and told her all about how he was leaving for Cousins Camp! Needless to say, he was very excited! And, when I was hanging out with Joey at mom and dad's and Heather and Guthrey had left, Joey looked at me and said, "Why are you still here mom? Don't you need to go?" Yes, Joey, don't worry, I will soon be gone so that you can be spoiled and have absolutely no rules and get whatever you want for 4 days straight.

Joe left for Canada for a Boundary Waters Fishing trip with his brothers and dad on Wednesday. They returned home Sunday night, but of course, Joey was gone to Cousins Camp. So, Joe is very lonesome for his Joey, but also very thankful to have some alone time with Maddox, I think. It's funny because you just don't realize how easy one is - when you have two! Maddox has been amazing and I think he's enjoyed all the personal attention! More to come on the fishing trip later- but I will say, we missed Daddy a lot!

This past weekend, we also had Ashley's bridal shower and bachelorette party! My sister and I are bridesmaids and....big news is next.....wait for it...wait for it....Joey is the RINGBEARER!!! Seriously- can you imagine anything more cute??? So, we're all looking forward to this wedding, and judging from the shower and party, it's going to be a blast! The bridal party and Dean's family were so much fun. We had a great time and the night included memories such as:
* Mony, Mony
* "Burger" - a girl we nicknamed at the bar
* Leslie wearing a fanny pack
* Kate and her underwear situation at the bar (I will leave all other details out)
* The Carroll bar full of boring men.
* Discussing the fear of having a little person baby
* Ashley's sexy pajamas
* Sun (and that's all I willl say about that, as well)
* Making G-Money (Guthrey) drive the van with Bachelorette Party stickers on the outside
* Listening to Kate tell the same story over and over about crashing her Sun Fire or Firebird or something in high school
* Leslie's mom and dad riding their bikes by the party and ringing their bells

It was a great time and I'll try to post some photos later! 5 weeks until the big day for Ashley! We can't wait!

Thanks for the advice about school! Could not imagine thinking of these things with a 2 year old. I hear you loud and clear... Pretty much why I am torn. I love reading your blog. I know I don't post, but I love reading it. You do such a great job! The boys are really growing and they are so cute.
