We got rain in our basement on Thursday, I think. Everything was sopping wet....at the time, I blamed it on my husband, not the rains. It's been on his list to clean out the gutters for about 6 weeks now, and it never got done. So, the gutters weren't functional at all, which did cause some of the flooding. However, even with the gutters clean, we're now still getting water down there. It's a great thing when you're trying to sell your house. The truth is- a lot of people who have never had water in their basement now have it so it's not surprising. But, it, of course, has created a lot of work for us - and my in-laws unfortunately. Bobbi and I got as much of the furniture and stuff out of the basement into the garage. And, Daddy Joe and Joe lifted the carpet, put fans underneath, tore the pad out, etc. It's still wet down there today....as soon as it's dry, we'll put the whole room back together again. And, now, of course, we have to disclose this to any buyers. And, we have to figure out a fix - not sure if that's another sump pump (our current one is working, just couldn't keep up) or if we have to tile around the house. Here are other things on my mind today:
1. House is a mess.
2. Can't get to my washer and dryer so can't do laundry. Bobbi has a couple of loads of mine at her house.
3. Can't get to the deep freeze downstairs where all of our meat is for meals.
4. Can't get to the storage room where we keep a lot of crap.
5. Lawn is long and shaggy and needs to be mowed. Have to get the mower back from my brother-in-law.
6. Have to go get a carpet pad to put downstairs and put our basement together again.
7. Ordered a carpet cleaning for tomorrow, so have to clear out as much furniture and junk from our house as possible so he can clean carpets.
8. Have to work extra hours this week because we're taking vacation next week to Ely.
9. Have to plan Joey's bday party - order subs, order cake, hope his present arrives in time (Bat Cave from Batman), hope his scrapbook/album arrives in time.
10. Pack for the Bud Open Softball Tournament this weekend.
11. Look ahead to Ely. We get back from Bud Open Sunday night, have Monday to work, and then we're supposed to leave for Ely....a lot to get organized by then.
12. Screened-in porch is a disaster- flooded, dirt and leaves all over, rugs drenched...
13. Haven't called either set of grandparents in days....
14. Somehow figure out how to fix the basement- tiling or another pump....not even sure who to consult on this.
15. Gas is nearing $4....wow. Not even sure we can afford that when we just paid for air conditioner to be fixed, washer to be fixed, dryer to be fixed, and now the basement....
16. Take house off the market. There's enough on my mind, I don't really feel like selling it anymore. All these expenses make me wonder if we can even afford it anymore....
I could hardly sleep last night because I was thinking about all of this stuff. I can't do anything about any of it for the most part, so not sure why I worry. I just want it to all to be done.
On a brighter note, we went to Matt and Katie's wedding on Saturday. It was a great time and they looked totally in love. It was a fun wedding. Here's a picture from our night.

All I know is that you do not recover from weddings and long nights like you did when you were 22. Sunday was a long day! But, the kids were really good so I can't complain too much.
I'd like to say it's done raining for a while but I heard it'll be back Thursday-Saturday.....can't wait!

we have a little water in our basement too....never have in 7 yeaars until last night. sucks. carpet was ugly mauve anyway so we just tore the whole thing out. still sucks.
oh and if you figure out another fix other than a sump pump, let me know. our house doesn't have one at all and our gutters were fine, so if you have another solution I'd be curious to hear it!
