Eight is Great!

We had a few birthday celebrations in honor of Joey's 8th birthday! We had a basketball-themed birthday party with his friends at our house, we had our family and Guthrey, Heather and Jeff and families over to our house one night for baked potato bar (Joey's favorite meal) and gifts, and we had the traditional extended family birthday party at the Bud Open!

Here are a few photos from his friend birthday party! Joe did some basketball drills with them, some fun basketball games like knockout, and then some games of 3-on-3.  It was the first day of nice weather in weeks so it worked out great.  We had grilled hot dogs, watermelon and cheetos for lunch!  It was a fun two hours and always fun to see Joey interacting with his best buddies!

Joey's friends are always so good to both Saylor and Maddox....they all act like older brothers when they are around!

There's nothing cuter than when two little boys high-five or chest bump!
One of my favorite moments was when Maddox hit the game-winning shot for his team....all of the 1st graders came running up to him and he was so happy and yet he was trying to play it cool, too- like he's been there, done that before! It was so fun to see him showered with attention by the "big kids."

Instead of gifts, Joey asked all of his friends to bring a ball to donate to Courage League Sports- they are opening a gym this fall for mentally, emotionally or physically challenged kids to play sports! They were in need of a bunch of "soft" balls....we got almost 20 balls!
At home, we had a little celebration so he could open his gifts from us but we invited Heather, Guthrey and Jeff and families since they couldn't come to the birthday party on Saturday!

He definitely was surprised to receive an iTouch....he also got a favorite gift here from H, G and J- iTunes gift card and Minecraft lego set!

Lastly, we celebrated at the annual Bud Open tournament in Carroll...again, it had to rain on our parade so we moved the party to a board room at the Carrollton Inn.  We still had a great time.  His favorite gifts were definitely the Michael Jordan backpack and the iHome so he could use his iTouch with it.  But, he got some great stuff - clothes, duffle bag, Prince Fielder figurine, a lunch bag, a new book, and some cash.  It's funny how old he's getting...when he got home, he wanted to know where his checks and cash are! Joe has promised him he gets to open up a bank account!

All of the birthday celebrations were memorable! We are very proud of our little boy.  He went on a play date this week and the mom said to me, "I would love to just sit down and talk to you about how you are parenting him because he is a truly wonderful kid....you should be so proud of him. He was nice, well-mannered and so much fun- we'd love to have him any day."  Those words were the highlight of my week....I think many times you question yourself as a parent and question your parenting decisions so that one comment made all the parenting "lows" seem very, very worth it.

Happy 8th Birthday, Joey IV!
