It's been a while since I posted on what the kids have been up to so here's a quick re-cap.
Joey IV:
Joey is still into all-things sports related. He goes from one season to the next and can't get enough of playing and practicing. He had a great basketball season this year, and we could tell all his practicing had paid off during the games. He loves high-fiving his teammates when they do a good job. He learned how having an assist is just as cool as scoring your own basket. He hates to lose....and there's always a bit of a long car ride home after a loss. He gained confidence on the court (sometimes a little too much). He takes coach's criticism well and always seems to step up after being critiqued. He picks up on plays pretty easily and is starting to really "get" the game, so that's fun to watch his little brain thinking out there on the court. He isn't as ready for baseball season....I'd say that baseball is his third favorite sport in the scheme of things.
He doesn't love school- he mostly tolerates it. I think he's fine once he gets there but doesn't love the thought of going there in the morning. He likes Math, Art, PE and Recess mostly.
He wakes up early on the weekends...and wants to sleep in on the school days so he is a fairly typical kid I think! He loves listening to music when he plays with his Legos, plays basketball inside the house, on his headphones on the couch, or while playing the iPad. He is a constant rule-follower of whatever sports he is playing and finds it very difficult to be flexible....he's always telling us "Well, that's fine but that's NOT the rule" or "That's NOT how you play it" or "That's cheating because that's NOT the rule" or "We should play by the REAL rules." We often have to remind him that it's not an NBA game and we can make our own adjustments to the rules!
He loves art projects and drawing and writing and illustrating books. He can often be found at our table working on his latest creation. I enrolled him in art camp this summer, and hope that he really likes it.
He does a lot of "instant replays" and imitations or re-plays of conversations had in school, which always crack me up. He loves watching ESPN and sports on TV and has slowly started to move past the cartoons.
He constantly needs fed...and not just little meals. If I put two cookies in front of him, he says "Seriously, mom? Two cookies?" He has officially moved past happy meals and gets an adult meal. He no longer gets a kids subway sandwich, he gets a six-inch. He needs fed approximately every 2.5 hours. He now eats 3 pieces of pizza and as a family, we have almost moved past the "one large is enough" stage.
He is kind and sensitive and is developing a sense of humor. He will always choose me to snuggle with on the couch....he is more a mama's boy at home, and a daddy's boy outside of home. Maddox is his best buddy and they get along a solid 90% of the time. He loves Saylor and is very protective of her but frankly, she slows down his game. He doesn't like to stop for her, he doesn't like her ruining his artwork, he doesn't want to stop and slow down to play with her.
Overall, he's a great kid. He loves being at home and with his own family though. He gets homesick and always prefers that we're all together. He's like his father in that way.
Hard to believe he'll be 8 this summer!!
