My cousin's wife, Kim, and I were this year's hosts of our annual Remsburg Cousins Weekend! Raise the roof! (Only my cousins will understand that joke, but you would think it was funny, so go ahead and laugh).
This year, we decided to have Friday night festivities at my house! Kim and I made some "summer" appetizers. We made strawberry bruschetta, greek dip, pineapple haberno dip, and tomato mozzerella skewers! We also had some fun summer beers and drinks, as well as wine. For favors, we printed out a "Happy Summer" printable we found and framed one for everyone! You can see our food and favors in this photo!
After we ate appetizers, we went outside and sat around the firepit and talked! That's always our favorite part of Remsburg Cousins weekend - the talking and the talking and the talking!
On Saturday, Kim and I started a "bargain shopping tour" of Des Moines - we hit up Gordmans, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Pier One, World Market, Tuesday Mornings, and a couple of other shops. Everyone got a little something. Then, we headed downtown and hit up some little antique shops and boutiques....which was a lot of fun! We ended with drinks at Raccoon River Brewery (which Jenny thought should all have some sentimental value to us since we grew up by the Raccoon River) and had dinner at Django (courtesy of Grandma Phyllis....also known as G-Money). We then went back to the Wild Wood Lodge to sleep. Kelly slept VERY comfortably in the pull-out, er, floor.
On Sunday morning, we all headed home early. Time to get back to the kids and back to reality!
I am SO thankful for this weekend every year. It's hard leaving the family, but once we are together, the fun and laughs are never-ending. I have SO many good memories with my cousins and it's a wonder we all get along so well. It's a group of girls that I'm lucky to have as family but blessed to have as my best friends. We hope to someday incorporate Jeff's future wife. That poor girl won't know what she got into, and then she won't know how to get out. I can't wait.
Already looking forward to Madison in 2013!
