2012 Bake-Off Champion Crowned

Friday, January 13, 2012

The Coppola Annual Bake-Off took place last weekend! This year's challenge: fried chicken AND potato salad! We usually do something sweet, but this year, decided to go with a main dish and a side dish to keep things interesting! None of us girls had ever made fried chicken before, and Bobbi had done it one or two times, but let's just say that Daddy Joe did not give her chicken rave reviews! So, she was up for trying it again!

As far as the potato salads go, surprisingly loved all of them! I would say that Bobbi and I made more of a "picnic-style" potato salad, while Ali and Emily made more of a "loaded baked potato" salad - WITH bacon, which was really yummy!

As far as the fried chicken goes, Emily's had the best appearance (in my opinion) and Ali's had the best flavor - it was Paula Deen's recipe so go out and get it now! It had some hot sauce in it, which gave it the perfect little kick! I actually did like mine and Bobbi's, too - everyone's was good!
In the end, the winners were:
Holly: Potato Salad Champion of the World
Ali: Fried Chicken Queen

In my acceptance speech, I gave credit to Grandma Phyllis, who taught me everything I know about potato salad.  It wasn't exactly like hers, so I still have some perfecting to do, but it definitely was close! And, the best part is- I'm not scared to bring potato salad to a gathering anymore! I think I can handle the pressure!

Here's me with my Betty Crocker nametag....and, Ali being a freak that she is behind me! I am very proud of my win - this is my first win in four years!
