Celebrating Joey’s SIXTH Birthday!

Sunday, June 26, 2011

It was a very busy birthday week for Joey and our family….we had Davis in town for Vacation Bible School, we had my brother’s graduation from Palmer Chiropractic, we had the Bud Open Softball Tournament, and we had our extended family bday party for Joey, as well as our little family bday celebration (which included a sleepover with Carter and Davis!).  Then, a week later, he got to have his kindergarten class over for a birthday party at our house! Whew! It was exhausting! Here are some photos from our celebrations!

Joey’s actual birthday was Crazy Hair Day at Vacation Bible School! June 2011- Joeys Bday 002

Celebrating at home! We went to the Pizza Ranch for pizza, and then Carter and Davis got to spend the night with us!

We celebrated at the Bud Open Softball Tournament with a birthday party in between games. This was the first year that the party at the park got rained out, so we held it at the hotel! It was a little cramped, a little rushed, but it all worked out!

And, I didn’t get a chance to take a lot of photos at Joey’s birthday party….to be honest, I just never had the time! He had 11 out of 12 classmates come to the party, plus I had 5 moms stay, and bring their siblings. So, we had a total of 19 kids and 5 moms, plus us – so we had nearly 30 come! It isn’t something I plan on doing every year, but since his half-day kindergarten class was so small, I thought I could invite them all.  I took some advice from other parents and basically just let the kids play, and didn’t plan much. We had a couple of organized games of Red Rover and Red Light, Green Light- but other than that, they just played.  It was only two hours long, but that proved to be just the right amount of time.  I was mostly grateful for the kids’ behavior- they were very polite and well-mannered and just easy to please! Rain did threaten the outdoor activities for a short bit, but it cleared up in no time, and we were back outside!

I had two favorite parts to the friend party:

1) When Maddox got called over in Red Rover and broke through the hands! He was SO proud of himself, and he has told probably 20 people that he “broke through the gate all by himself!” And, then he took Joey over to the other side with him, and he was so excited to choose his big brother!

2) The next day after the party, Joey said to me, “Mom, I wish it was yesterday again. I wish I could do that day over.”  It made my back aches and swollen feet all worth it!

All and all, a good birthday week for us! Joey is growing up so fast, moving on to older kid stuff…..it’s hard watching him become so independent of us.  Guess I can’t slow Father Time down, so I might as well deal with it! Happy Sixth Birthday, Joey!
