Here's a little sampling of our life over the last two weeks....
Sunday, May 8 - Maddox seems to be coming down with a cough and croup. Up all night coughing.
Monday, May 9 morning - Joey wakes up and complains of a toothache. When I brush his teeth before school, he starts crying because his tooth hurts so bad. I call the dentist and he says if we bring him in at 8 a.m., he can fit him in, otherwise, he's out of the office. So, Joe takes Joey to the dentist. Joe calls me from the dentist to tell me that Joey has two infections in his teeth and that he has to go on antibiotics for 10 days, or they might end up pulling the teeth. Great. In the meantime, I see that Maddox appears to be worse, so I tell Joe and he comes home from the dentist and watches both boys in the morning, while I work. Then, he goes into work after lunch, and I stay home with the boys in the afternoon, while Joe works.
Monday, May 9 afternoon - Maddox is getting worse so I take him in to Urgent Care, while Joe takes Joey to his baseball game. Maddox receives a breathing treatment and a steroid to help with is respiratory problems. I bring Maddox to Joey's baseball game and go to the pharmacy to fill both Joey and Maddox's prescription. At the pharmacy, I wait an hour to get them both filled.
Tuesday, May 9 - Thursday, May 12- We struggle to get Joey to take the penicillin because it tastes so bad - every night is a battle and he throws up half of it, spits it out or fights us.
Thursday, May 12- I clean the house top to bottom, wash all the bedding, and am excited for a peaceful night at home with the family, all on the mend.
Friday, May 13th at 4:30 a.m. - Joey wakes up and has thrown up all over his sheets. He gets Joe up and tells Joe that he thinks he just ate too many cookies the night before, and Joe believes him. He puts Joey on the couch downstairs and strips the bed. As he strips the bed, he leaves the puke-stained pajamas behind accidentally, and gets puke all over the carpet. On a side note, we had plans to have lunch with Aunt Daria on this day, and have to cancel, so I was bummed out since we rarely get to see her!
Friday, May 13th at 6:30 a.m. - Joey wakes up crying and has puked all over his Pillow Pet and the blankets Joe laid out for him. I go downstairs to clean up all the blankets and step on puke on the way down the stairs, to which Joey replies, "Oh yeah, mom, I forgot to tell you - I puked on the stairs too." We clean Joey up, get him in the bathtub and cleaned up, while I begin to strip the couch, clean the puke on the stairs and clean up the puke left behind in the bedroom.
Friday, May 13th at 8:30 a.m. - Joey is back in our bed watching a movie, misses the bucket, and pukes all over our sheets. Same procedure: clean up Joey, strip bed, make new bed for Joey downstairs with clean blankets, and start all over again.
Friday, May 13th at 1 p.m. - Remsy, our dog, pukes all over the kitchen floor. It's raining hard and the softball tournament for Friday is postponed til Saturday.
Saturday, May 14th - Softball tournament is still on, but it's rainy and cold, so I keep boys home all day....it was another longgggg day....
Fast forward to....
Tuesday, May 18th - We give up on the penicillin and after getting a stern warning from our dentist, we go to a different pharmacy and get the prescription flavored. It seems to help, but it certainly was not a miracle. Ugh.
Thursday, May 19th, 4 p.m .- I give the house another full clean now that everyone is on the mend- clean the bathrooms, vacuum, dust, disinfect the kitchen. Bobbi is bringing boys home and calls to inform me that Maddox has puked in her car on the way here. Joey has baseball practice at 6 and Joe is golfing in a tournament. Bobbi stays with Maddox, while I take Joey to baseball. Maddox pukes 4 times between 4 & 7 p.m. (luckily he hits the bucket most of the time).
Friday, May 19th - Rainy and cold out, and we decide to stay home with the boys. Lydia comes to our house at 2:30 while our friends, Wes and Amy, go to Las Vegas.
Saturday, May 20th - Play outside with all the kids, catch up around the house. Maddox starts complaining of a stomach ache at about 6 p.m. but we don't think its anything. He says he is starving so he eats a ton. On the way home, he said his stomach hurt again and we told him he was tired, he needs to go to bed.
Saturday, May 20th, 10:30 p.m.- Maddox pukes all over his bed, his sheets, and the carpet. It was not pretty.
I tried to clean up the puke, and gagged so hard that I peed my pants. So, Joe took over the carpet cleaning, while I got the laundry started, and Maddox cleaned up (and, well, myself cleaned up).
Sunday, May 21st, 1-4 a.m.- Lydia is up whimpering and crying....Joe and I both take a turn going down and patting her and try to get her to go back to sleep. We question why we thought it was a good idea to bring another baby into this crazy household. Everyone in our house is up by 7 a.m.
Sunday, May 21st, 9 a.m. - Go to switch the laundry in the morning from washer to dryer, and carrots start coming out of the sheets and a horrible smell, and I start gagging again and I pee my pants (again). Joe had to come to my rescue again and wash the sheets one more time because I still thought they smelled. Okay, I realize that peeing your pants is not normal. This is a combination of my weak stomach, my strong sense of smell, a weak bladder, and being 6 months pregnant. After the sheets are done, I put another load of dirty towels in the washer.
Sunday, May 21st, 10:30 a.m. - Joe, Joey and Maddox start screaming downstairs for me to come downstairs and they are all gagging. Joe keeps saying, "I'm not changing her, I can't do it, I'm not going to do it." He did take one for the team with the carpet cleaning and sheets, so I take her. Maddox and Joey go put chip clips on their noses because they are so grossed out. I change one nasty diaper. One hour later, I change another nasty diaper.
Sunday, May 21st, evening- Joey complains of a backache so Joe gives him an ice pack for his back. In the morning, we find out that the ice pack has broken all over his sheets. Yet another round of laundry.
Monday, May 22nd, evening- The dog pukes again.
Tuesday, May 23rd – Maddox has stomach aches and diarrhea.
