Bathroom Makeover!

Monday, May 30, 2011

With a three-day weekend ahead of us, and no big plans on the books, we decided to tackle our bathroom.  The “Before” pictures below are from when we we took pictures in April one year ago, when the previous homeowners had lived here….

As you can see, the bathroom had a lot of….spunk? Or, personality? We’re not really sure how to describe that bathroom.  But, the mix of gold and purple/eggplant/Barney colors were really not my thing.  The main problem though was that the gold was difficult to change because the large shower was encased in gold, so unless we wanted to replace the shower, we had to keep that.  So, after one year of thinking it over, getting quotes for different things, price comparing, etc, we decided to attack the purple and gold.

Here are a couple of pics mid-process -

And, with a little TLC, three coats of paint by my father-in-law, hard work by my husband, and my input (along with several family members’ advice along the way!), here is the “After”.

So, here’s what we did in a nutshell:

Replaced old toilet and properly installed it this time!

Replaced large, ugly mirror with two framed mirrors

Replaced ugly cheap white knobs with matching knobs

Replaced toilet paper holder to match hardware

Replaced ugly old-school gold lighting with matching lighting

Replaced gold faucets in both sinks

Took down large gold towel bar and got a handtowel hook

All hardware was done in “Venetian Bronze”

Painted over the purple with a taupe color

Replaced bath towel cheap hooks with new hooks

And, added finishing touches: rugs, new basket for boys’ bath stuff, a shelf for my bath stuff, new jars for Qtips and floss, a new hook for necklaces, etc….

This makeover made all the difference! Waking up to a much happier bathroom and a happier me! : ) This bathroom did cause a few hiccups along the way, but nothing that caused too much drama.

In the future, we could replace the vanity, replace the shower casing, and replace the whirlpool hardware (for $400 a pop!)….but for now, this is a good start and I am really pleased with the result! Just shows what a little paint and a little love can do to a home! Thanks Joe and Daddy Joe and Cary!!!
