Happy Spring!

Friday, March 20, 2009

I heard today on the radio that today is the first day of Spring! Hallelujah! And, it's a pretty nice day out to celebrate actually.

Most importantly, it coincides with NCAA tournament time! Get out your brackets! It's time to eat, sleep and breathe basketball in our house. And, did you notice that Michigan on your brackets this year? So, this house is excited and to get prepared, we did this yesterday....
Poor Remsy...waiting for her bath.Maddox likes to help rinse.Joey likes to help scrub. Yes, his pants are on backwards. He dressed himself that day. Backwards underwear, as well. I declared it "Backwards Day" and went with it. He was so proud. And, Remsy always gets a treat for being so good.
And, when all is said and done, we get her ready for Michigan Game Day. Good girl, Remsy!
Couldn't resist posting these photos of my neices and boys. When the girls come over to play, they adjust to playing Superheroes very well! They join right in and play with the Batcave, dress up as Spidey-Girl and wrestle.

These are the days we'll remember...Grace and Joey are pretty tight. He looks up to her like an older sister and they play real well together. Grace is a little mother Hen to both Joey and Maddox. Maya and Joey are good buddies too but because they're the exact same age, they can butt heads more. But, they're playing together more and more now. I love getting a little taste of girls running around in our house. I wonder how my home would be different with splashes of pink and purple and fairy wands and glitter here and there. Maybe someday I'll find out.

In closing, here are a few Joeyisms to start your spring! Enjoy the weekend!

Me: Joey, did you know Michigan won last night?

Joey: Oh Boy, Mom! Daddy was wrong- Daddy said they would lose.

Joey: Mom, can you do me a favorite? (favor)

Bobbi had gotten some Easter Egg dye kits and Joey had asked her what it was for and Bobbi replied, "It's to dye Easter Eggs". Later on that morning, Joey looked at Bobbi and I and took the kit and got his Superhero edge to him and said, "Mom, is this what we're going to KILL the Easter Eggs with?" He had confused "die" with "dye"! Bobbi and I nearly fell off our chairs. We explained that we meant "color." Late yesterday afternoon, Joey took the kit to me and said, "Mom, we are NOT going to KILL Easter Eggs with this, are we????"

Joey: I am so thirsty, Aunt Heather.

Heather: Joey, would you like a bottle of water?

Joey: Sure, I'd love one!

Joey: Mom, do you know how to make a fire? You take two sticks and rub them together really, really fast and it makes fire. Papa Mark told me. But, today it's too cold out to show you. I will show you tomorrow when it's warm, okay?

My dad has always loved fire, fyi.

I'm walking through the house after making the boys popcorn for a snack and I see popcorn everywhere- all throughout the house on the floor. Then, I catch Joey as he's walking and taking the popcorn out piece by piece and putting it on each stair. I looked at him and said, "What do you think you are doing?" And, he said, "Who? Me? Oh, I'm just making a popcorn trail!" Oh yeah, how silly of me to wonder...

We were on our way to church and Joey is staring out the window and says, "Dad, are you thinking what I'm thinking?" So, of course, we're not sure what he's thinking but we're sure it's along the lines of what a beautiful day it is outside, how all the snow is gone, maybe some deep, internal thoughts about Sunday School and Jesus...Joe says, "Well, what are you thinking?" And, Joey replies, "That we should build a crocodile that would eat people up?" Yep, you nailed it, Joey. Exactly what we were thinking.

Each month, our church has a "Kids Mission of the Month." So, one month, it was donating gloves and mittens. Another month, it was donating underwear. This month, it was donating cereal to a kids breakfast club that's in a low-income part of Des Moines. So, we went to the store and I told Joey to pick out two boxes and I explained that some kids don't have a lot of money and without our cereal, they wouldn't get to eat breakfast. The next day, Bobbi saw the cereal in a sack and Joey said, "Gamma, you know those kids who don't have cereal? This is for them."

Lastly, I'd like to point out that my cousin Jenny complained to my Grandma about the sweater jokes. Grandma Phyllis told Jenny she's going to have a talking with me and that she always has thought Jenny was in style. Grandma Phyllis better be careful, or she'll end up with photos on here, too!

I'm just wondering how Joey managed to keep Remsy from eating his popcorn trail?
