On Saturday, I woke up and did another long run to keep up my training for the half-marathon. The whole time I ran, I thought to myself, “Why am I doing this? Who finds running ‘fun’? What is fun about running for 2 hours straight? Whoever says they love running is a flat-out liar.” Yep, that’s what I thought. I’d like to bail on this whole run. It’s been so much work, and a lot of time. And, my shins hurt a lot. The first two miles are my worst miles- my shins kill. Then, eventually, over time, my legs go numb and you can’t feel the shin splints as bad. But, I’m in too deep to turn around now, so I’m keep moving forward. Finish. That’s all I want to do.
Joe and I didn’t do a lot on Saturday- we went to LJ and Katy’s house and watched Michigan. Maddox took a pretty big chin-dive to the pavement and now is sporting a cut and fat lip. Poor guy. Joey skipped his nap and behaved fabulously- he was great. On Saturday night, we went to Bobbi and Joe’s for supper. Bobbi and Joe were watching Davis while Tony and Kelly were out of town in Decorah. Ali and Cary came over with Carter so all the boys were together. They always have a lot of fun. Davis copies everything Joey does and it’s so incredibly cute that I can hardly stand it. And, soon Carter will be copying all three of the older boys! I’m glad they get to grow up together. Mom and dad sent Joe and I a fun surprise in the mail on Saturday, too- so we enjoyed that.
On Sunday, we all went to church together. Normally, Joey goes to Sunday School while we are in church, but I was the Sunday School assistant this week, so we went to church together, Sunday School afterwards. Joey was kind of naughty in church- and we are trying to be strict about sitting and behaving in chuch- he’s old enough now to understand. When Joe and I went up to communion, he said he wanted to sit by himself….he did great….until we got closer and closer to the front….and then he wanted to come get us. He started to walk by himself, realized he had forgotten every toy and book in his seat so he went back and got all of them, and then excused himself through the entire long line of people waiting for communion. Then, he got there just in time while we were getting our wafer and wine, and he looked at the servers like, “Um, what about me? I want a bite of one of those.” He smiled HUGE for them, and was disappointed he didn’t get a “treat”. Very cute. The sermon was about marriage and what God has to say about marriage and divorce, and highlighted the movie “Fireproof”. So, Joe and I made plans to go tonight with Joe and Bobbi. I’m looking forward to it! And, we bought the book that goes with the movie, so I’m anxious to start it.
Sunday School….the music and lesson were great! Seeing Joey sing songs like “Lean on Me- Jesus!” and “Father Abraham” was so, so cute. But, Joey was clingy and a little naughty and I was constantly riding him. When we walked out at the end of the class, the lead teacher said to me, “Just so you know- he’s not like that when you’re not here.” I told her I was worried and felt like he needed to listen and face the front more, and she said Joey usually does do that. So, I guess that made me feel better.
Following Sunday School, Joe planned a trip to an orchard and pumpkin patch in Cambridge. It was a big, big farm that had a ton of stuff to do. I’d suggest it for 2-year olds-plus….lots of activities, animals and things to do. And, they had a ton of apples, and apple treats to buy. (See previous post on how much I love apples). I really like apple fritters and they had a mix for those so I bought it! I’m going to make some this weekend so I can’t wait to try it.
Last night, Maddox picked up this little rock that I had and threw it at Joey’s face- hit him in the eye and left quite the mark. Maddox didn’t feel any remorse, in fact, he might have been looking for approval! Naughty! Naughty! Joey didn’t fight back- probably because he was too busy crying so we had to give out a lot of love for Joey, and our disappointment to Maddox. Later, we made tuna and noodles (I’ve never made these before- it was good), roasted marshmallows, ate our caramel apples, went for a walk, and took a drive through a really rich neighborhood and pretended like we were house-hunting. Joe and I started the movie “Baby Mama” and never made it through it. It was just a tiring weekend.
On another note, I’m sad Paul Newman died. You see, I don’t know him from “Cool Hand Luke” or any of his other movies. My dad made me watch “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” in high school, and I enjoyed the flick. But, I know him for his salad dressings (my absolute favorite!) and charity. And, how wonderful to be known for charity than for movies – that’s a real Hollywood star. And, a star who actually stayed married and in love….to quote him “Why go out for burgers when you have steak at home?” If you have to be compared to a piece of meat, that’s definitely how you want it to go down!
This week is busy….going to “Fireproof” tonight; drinks with Kelly and Ali to celebrate baby-on-the-way tomorrow night; water babies on Wed. night; and possibly going to my cousins’ volleyball and football game on Thursday night….so, a jam-packed week – but all of it fun! Let’s hope we make it through the week with less rock-throwing and misbehaving; and more hugs and love all the way around.
