Sunny days....Sweepin' the clouds Away....

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

It's Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. and I'm motivating myself to get to the gym. Joe arrived home Sunday afternoon around 1:30 in the afternoon. I was doing yard work so that he wouldn't have to worry about that right when he got home. Actually, my brother did most of the work- the mowing. I really appreciated that!

The four days without Joe went surprisingly fast. It seemed as if I had something planned or visitors a lot and that makes the time go fast. But, it made me really think about single parents. It's hard to complain about your husband being gone 4 days when SO many people have it SO much worse. I thought a lot about men and women serving in the military - I wonder - is there a raging Republican spouse just praying a democrat gets elected in the hopes that MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, he/she will bring their spouse back from overseas? Or, I thought about Coach Krzyzewski from Duke- I wonder, 25 years ago, did his wife ever just hope a little tiny bit that her husband would just lose a game so she could have him home an extra night with their little kids? Or, is there a corporate wife who dreams that her husband would stop getting promoted so they could see him a little more? A lot of people say - well, if your husband/wife made that kind of money, you wouldn't care how often they were home. I don't think that's true of 90% of families. I'd give up Coach K's salary to see my husband more often in a heartbeat. But, I realize that careers are important, too. Having passions for things like coaching, fighting for our freedom, climbing the corporate ladder -those things are important too. Raising children is just difficult and I'm in awe of spouses who do the majority on their own. I suppose it's a balancing act, and you just have to make the most of the time you do have together.

That being said, I leave for San Antonio to meet my best friend from college on Thursday. My other best friend, Andrea, has been called to duty by the National Guard so she won't be joining us anymore, which is a total and complete bummer. Hannah is bringing her little sister though, so that'll be nice! I'm totally excited to see them and to get away for a few days, but know that I'll miss the boys (all 3 of them) so much, so I'm starting to mentally prepare today!

Last night we went to hitting practice with Joe. The weather was FINALLY beautiful out and Joey ran around the fields with Ashley and I fed Maddox his supper. It was great being outside and I love having the boys around Joe and softball as much as possible in the summer. It's a good outlet for all of us.

Here's to more good weather!
